Mihai Fulger: „Principala problemă a filmului este scenariul care lasă impresia de încropeală sau improvizaţie (nu degeaba subiectul a trecut prin zece mâini – nemaisocotindu-l pe regizor – până a ajunge pe ecrane), combinând locuri comune cu lacune şi incoerenţe; povestea Silviei, care formează nucleul narativ, este prea întortocheată pentru a fi credibilă. The Interpreter ar fi trebuit să fie un thriller politic, dar se dovedeşte mai degrabă o (melo)dramă psihologică, dominată de dialoguri nesfârşite între protagonişti (din fericire, şarmul actorilor salvează situaţia). În schimb, secvenţele de thriller – puţine, dar intense – sunt excelent realizate, montajul în paralel sporindu-le suspansul.”
